Ron Arad presents Curtain Call at the Roundhouse

Ron Arad’s ‘Curtain Call’ at the Roundhouse, 2011

From 6-29 August 2016 Ron Arad transforms London’s Roundhouse with an elaborate large-scale installation and a series of events in collaboration with internationally renowned artists.

For Curtain Call, renowned artist, architect and designer Arad has redefined the curtain with an installation of over 5,000 cascading silicon rods. The result is a curtain or canopy which can be wandered through and explored, which catches and distorts the light, and which is both monumental and intimate. The rods hang from a steel ring 18m in diameter, within which performances will take place. In addition, moving image works will be projected onto the composite circular ‘screen’; visitors are invited to walk through the screen as an alternative to watching, more typically, from afar.

“Walk in, penetrate, cross the moving images to get inside the cylinder. You’ll be engulfed by images –a captive, but also a creator. It’s amazing what exciting things happen on both sides of the curtain.” – Ron Arad

Curtain Call was first presented at Roundhouse in 2011. As part of the 2016 installation Ron Arad has collaborated with numerous internationally renowned artists and creatives to present works on the giant circular screen. Universal Everything and Daniel Landau are among those who have collaborated with Arad for Curtain Call 2016, while Mat Collishaw and Christian Marclay are among artists from the project’s 2011 run who have collaborated for the second time. In addition to the project’s artist collaborations, a programme of events has been developed around the Curtain Call installation. Visitors to Roundhouse can enjoy performances by Matthew Herbert, Gaika, the BBC Proms and Dan Deacon, among others in the Curtain Call Live programme.

Curtain Call is presented as part of Bloomberg Summer at the Roundhouse, an annual programme designed to connect innovative cultural production and new audiences. The programme also celebrates fifty years of the Roundhouse, which for five decades has presented a diverse events programme incorporating arts, music, theatre and performance. As well as showcasing the work of new and established arts practitioners, the Roundhouse works to foster the careers of young people interested in working in creative disciplines.

Alongside Curtain Call, Sedition is pleased to be releasing a new work by Universal Everything as a digital edition. Stay tuned for more updates on the new release.

Curtain Call runs from 6-29 August 2016 at Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, London, NW1 8EH. For tickets and information on Curtain Call, visit: http://www.roundhouse.org.uk/whats-on/2016/ron-arads-curtain-call/
